Set Up Your First Session

For Hosts

Tap "Host" on the home screen
Select a playlist from your Apple Music library
Set session name and starting tokens
Tap "Open for Voting" to begin
Share the session code or QR code with guests

For Guests

Tap "Join" on the home screen
Enter the session code or scan the QR code
Use your tokens to vote on songs
The song with the most votes plays next!

Frequently Asked Questions

No! Only the host needs an Apple Music subscription. Guests can join and vote using just the JamVote app or even a web browser.

Nearby Mode uses peer-to-peer Wi-Fi to connect devices directly without needing a shared network. Perfect for outdoor parties, car trips, or venues without guest Wi-Fi. Premium feature.

Free tier limits sessions to the first 10 songs of your playlist. Upgrade to Premium for unlimited songs, Web Guests, Nearby Mode, shuffle, and no ads.

Make sure:

• Host and guests are on the same Wi-Fi network (or use Nearby Mode)
• The host has JamVote in the foreground
• Session code is entered correctly
• No firewall or network restrictions blocking local connections

If you previously purchased Premium, tap the upgrade prompt and then "Restore Purchase" at the bottom. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Music not playing?

Ensure the host has an active Apple Music subscription and the app has permission to access Apple Music in Settings > Privacy > Media & Apple Music.

Session disconnects?

Keep JamVote in the foreground on the host device. Background operation may interrupt the WebSocket server that guests connect to.

App crashing?

Try force-quitting and reopening the app. If issues persist, reinstall JamVote from the App Store.
